   Thanks for a quick reply either way. I suppose it’s just odd to me because I’ve never really had to use ‘formal’ language to anyone. oh and I wish Kimchi Man a speedy recovery! :)

   Thank you for these! I’m having fun practicing them – especially ‘you make my heart flutter’-it’s almost like a tongue twister. I have a question though. I noticed that some of the phrases are in formal language and I’ve noticed in dramas they tend to be in formal language too. My question is: why?? Yes, I get that there is more structured respect in language but surely, if you’re close enough to someone to ask for a hug or a kiss, you’d be close enough by that stage to not speak formally?

      I’m glad they’re fun. :)

      From what I understand, formality doesn’t always reflect how close you are to a person. For example, children need to speak respectfully to their parents or grandparents and use the formal versions even though they are obviously close to them and just want to tell them they love them.

      However, I really think it’s better if Kimchi Man confirms this and explains it in more detail. Sadly, he’s very ill so please understand and thank you for your patience.

   I’ve recenty heard the word “imja” in the Korean drama “Faith”… I personally really like the sound of this word… So my question, would it be awkward to use this word nowadays in Korea? (not that I have a bf, crush or anything, just curious ^^)

      임자 (imja) means “owner” in Korean. People say it is for fun. Also a bit old fashioned but it won’t make some awkward situation, so if you like it you can use it ^^

            It means owner but when they say it like that it’s same as saying English “I’m yours” in a romantic way
